Sanctuary. Paradise. Oasis. These words are probably the first words you think of when you hear the words “insurance company.” While for the most part this IS certainly true, I still find myself aspiring for more in life.
So, I thought I should probably set some goals in order to exile any molecule of banality from my ho-hum work life. I thought “how can I make my job at an insurance company more like the idyllic image everyone has in their minds?”
Here is a list of the goals I’ve come up with to add some zest to my insurance career:
- Get a star on the Insurance Walk of Fame
- Investigate whether or not there is an Insurance Walk of Fame
- Start an (insert my company name here) Insurance Awards Ceremony and have it televised on our local cable station
- Win the awards for Best Actress in an Insurance Drama and Best Actress in an Insurance Comedy at the aforementioned ceremony
- Become so popular after winning the two insurance awards that I need to hire a body guard (do you think Kevin Costner is available?) to escort me to our annual company BBQ held in our aesthetically pleasing company parking lot
- Star in the popular “Canadian Insurance” magazine. Note: with my blog and all, I may be too controversial for this magazine….I’m like the Kayne West of insurance. On a side note, do you know that you can’t buy this magazine on newstands at the Calgary or Toronto airport? What is wrong with this world?
- Write insurance mystery and suspense novels. Here are some possible titles: “The Mystery Behind the Sewer Back Up Destruction”, “The Tale of the Fraudulent Housekeeping Claim “, “The Case of Tiger Wood’s Secret Golf Cart Endorsement” or maybe an investigative compilation called “Unsolved Insurance Mysteries: Arson or Shoddy Electrical Work????”
- Start an insurance exhibit to be showcased in a gallery and opened with a star studded gala where all the big names in the insurance industry would be in attendance (please forgive me dear reader for not providing you with any of these big names. I don’t actually know who they are but that’s only because I don’t pay attention when they are talked about at work. I am sure they do exist and that if given an invitation, they would attend the gala). The exhibit would feature iconic objects like insurance policies, calculators, rate manuals and the grey carpet that once adorned our office walls (I assume carpet was a popular thing to put on office walls back in the 70s) .
So those are my goals. I encourage you to banish your every day blahness and create your own insurance dreams. As my friend Oprah says in her October issue of O magazine “Life is an open door to all that is possible. And that’s a powerful thing.”
